NCN1920x810BASILIANS OF THE LITHUANIAN PROVINCE IN THE YEARS 1617-1839 is a research project fundedby Poland’s NCN (2020/39/B/HS3/01232) and based at the Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities. The objective of the project is to research the history of the Basilian Fathers (OSBM)in the territory of the Commonwealth of Both Nations from the establishment of the Lithuanian province in 1617 until the dissolution of the congregation in 1839 in the lands under the Russian partition. The Basilians were the elite of the Uniate Church. The activity of this congregation significantly shaped the processes of cultural, educational and religious transformation of the eastern areas of the Polish-Lithuanian state. The project aims at recreating the process of establishing a network of institutions, getting acquainted with the environment of the founders and monastic community, taking into account their social and territorial origins, education and monastic careers. The activities of the order will be restored with regard to their pastoral and educational programme.
